Streets

I spit at the ground
In utter disgust
But my reflection was found
Within the sidewalk’s trust
Concrete warmed my fears
Dirt in the storm-drain of my heart
Same direction for a few years
Homeless man’s dreams lying in a cart
Smoke of my past exiting the sewer
Billboards could not capture the ad
Beckoning me here, I won’t let myself be lured
I shake the lies, protection like steel clad
21st, 20th, then back up your street
Windows close to keep your cold out
31st and Henry, the 10th suite
Cab drives away, and heals the doubt
I spit at the ground
In utter disgust
But my reflection was found
Within the sidewalk’s trust
